Traveling Terie
Life is short! Live it like you mean it!
Ever hear the saying “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?” Sure, you have. And the same often holds true for what happens during your cruise vacation – it’s the perfect time to let your hair down and allow yourself to get a little silly. Letting our inner child out every now and then is good for the soul! Some people really don’t like Sea Days – they’re totally focused on getting off the ship and exploring new destinations. And believe me, I’m all about creating memories through journeys that take my breath away! But I also love Sea Days. Dan and I love sitting on the pool deck, people-watching and playing cards together. Who has time for such activities in the hustle & bustle at home?? But, even being darn-near 70, we also enjoy just being kids at times. Cruise lines have lots of great ways to get silly onboard during Sea Days. It would be such a shame to miss out on an opportunity to just laugh with others and, maybe if you’re very brave, allow others to laugh at you WITH you! Carnival, as the self-professed “Fun” ship, always has something silly going on – just pick one or two that tickle your fancy: the Hairy Chest Competition, Battle of the Sexes, Scavenger Hunts, Trivia Games, Hasbro the Game Show, Quest, Sports Competitions, Karaoke, and Pool Deck Games (plus many others!). Royal Caribbean and Norwegian also have many of these crazy antics – and even Princess, Celebrity and Holland America have a few to choose from. Most of the ships also have dance lessons onboard … here’s your chance to learn the steps to “Thriller!” Carnival has a Dr. Seuss Parade and the kids really love marching around the ship with their favorite Cat in the Hat. It’s a great family activity and it’s pretty cool to let your kids see you being silly. But you know what? Even if you don’t have kids with you, you are NEVER too old to march around with the Cat and Things One and Two! I’m not much of a singer, but I have been known to grab a mic and pretend I’m Stevie Nicks – I’ll never see 99% of the people on that ship again (and if I do happen to be traveling with or run into a friend, well … maybe I will single-handedly be responsible for many lively conversations when they get home! Lol). One of the most hilarious events that Dan and I have played is Quest – Royal Caribbean has it on most ships and Carnival has it on several of theirs. It’s a late-night, adults-only circus of the silly. It’s best when you just join up with strangers and build a team … by the end of the game, you’re great friends! It’s a no-holds-barred insanity and you’ll laugh until your belly hurts. It gets a little off-colored (just a little!) but it’s all in good fun and it’s worth staying up late for!
So, celebrate the Sea Days on your next cruise by getting a little silly. You’ll have so many new memories to take home – at least, just enough to tie you over until your next cruise! Share the knowledge

One of the sillies games we’ve played on carnival is the ship wide scavenger hunt. One of the items on the list was a picture proposing to someone with an actual ring. We made a paper ring out of a napkin, then David walked up to the first person he saw and got down on one knee with the ring. The look on the strangers face was priceless.
