WHY DO We CHARGE PROFESSIONAL FEES?​

Travel Advisors are paid by travel suppliers through commissions.  Commissions are not paid until the client actually begins travel.  The pandemic taught Travel Advisors an important lesson:  when travel was canceled because of the shut-down in our industry we not only did not get paid commissions for bookings we had already made, but we also spent hundreds of unpaid hours helping our clients resolve refunds and Future Travel/Cruise Credits with suppliers.  

Once travel began, many suppliers increased the portion of what is called "non-commissional fees."  Every travel fare has at least three components:  the basic fare, taxes and (in the case of cruises) port fees, and a "non-commissional fee" that is undefined and set by the supplier.  It used to be about one-half of the basic fare; following return to travel, it is now about equal to the basic fare.  As a result, our commissions have been reduced almost in half, resulting in Travel Advisors nationwide being forced to charge professional fees to compensate for the loss of income.  

​Other reasons why we elected to charge professional fees:
  • Our level of experience and demand is high;
  • Charging a fee means I can serve fewer clients and give each client more attention;
  • Charging a fee means I work for the client, not the supplier--I don't rely on the upsell for my income; and 
  • Charging a fee protects me in case of cancellation.

All professional fees assessed by T & D Travel Partners, LLC are non-refundable.  Cancellation fees assessed by tour operators, cruise lines, airlines, etc., are in addition to our fee structure.  We strongly recommend that clients purchase travel insurance which can add peace of mind to your travel plans.  Should you decide not to purchase travel insurance, T & D Travel Partners will require that you sign a waiver acknowledging that insurance has been offered and declined.
